In an alternative world where one is stereotyped by their taste in music, there's two groups that don't always get along: the rockers (rock music) and the poppies (pop music).

Shay Walsh has been defined her entire life, being the daughter of two iconic rock stars. She loves rock music, has tattoos, and even plays guitar. She's used to being labeled. She's used to being envied. She's used to being hated. She's used to being judged. Shay is deeply insecure: she doesn't think she's good enough to follow her parents' musical footsteps, she hates her looks, and worst of all, she has an abusive boyfriend.

Shay feels trapped in her life. Until one day she goes to an audition for a local rock band. She meets confident lead singer Claudia, quiet bassist Kurt, funny drummer Ricky, and the sweet guitarist Braydon. Shay finds herself again, learns to love herself, and even learns what real love is with Braydon.

But self-love and romance endures a lot when Shay competes against pop girl group the Sparkles, risks losing the love of her life, especially when her abusive ex-boyfriend comes back from the past. Shay understand what love truly is, and she experiences this through her greatest love of all: music.

Jake Kavanagh's daughter Ellie is 18 and all grown up . She is at college doing business studies, and her interest in music is no more than a casual hobby that she enjoys. Thanks to her dad's musical background she can play many instruments, including lead guitar, so when one of her fellow college buddies ask her to join his band just for fun she is happy to go along with it, with no great ambition to pursue a life of rock n roll musical fame like her father. That is until she clashes with Brett Carter the good looking lead singer of the semi -rival rock band Kikz, who also play in the same small nightclubs as Ellie. Brett is a talented musician, but arrogant and full of himself and filled with ambition to make his band and music a worldwide sensation. He recognises Ellie's talent, even if she refuses to take it seriously, and think she is wasting her future doing business studies and she is missing a golden opportunity for her musical talent, He wants her to join his band, and so sets out to convince her to follow him into the world of rock stardom, when his band manage to get a recording contract. As much as Ellie is irked by Brett's arrogance and self assurance she finds herself flattered that he wants her to join him, and the possibility of following in her fathers footsteps in the music world starts to become more appealing... But first she has to convince her father Jake, who has kept her pretty sheltered from the music business and fame, to protect her from the murky past of her dead mother. Now, if she wants to join Kikz, she knows she will have to put up with the arrogant Brett, and keep him in line, whilst they make it big in the music world to find fame and fortune in their own right. But can she do it successfully on her own terms, and prove to her father and everyone else, that she will not end up like her mother

Sydney didn't have much, but that was fine with her. She didn't need much. Growing up on the Washington coast in a lonely beach town, working quietly behind the scenes was what she was good at. Living on the beach was much less glamorous than most people imagine. Her home was a beat up old Winnebago that she had shared with her father until he passed. Her father had been a detached parent. He loved his daughter of course, but he was by no means an affectionate man. She had grown up fending for herself, working backstage at a bar that hosted live bands using a fake ID. After the death of her father she saw an ad for a guitar technician for a local Seattle band. A love of rock and roll had been the one thing that her and her dad had in common. Selling everything that she didn't need she packed up her pickup truck and travelled north to the city, leaving the sleepy town in her rear view mirror. She didn't expect to embark on what would become the adventure of a lifetime. For someone who had hardly left the town she grew up in, the opportunity to get paid to travel the country and listen to great music was a dream come true. The band became her family, and life on the road was a perfect fit for her. Chris Cornell instantly became Sydney's best friend in the whole world. They were in love, that was plain as day to anyone who paid attention. Yet, sometimes love isn't as simple as it should be. Sometimes, love hurts. Two seniors that only have one thing in common, going to the same school. They hate each other because of their friend groups and past. As the two seventeen-year-old get forced to hang out together, things turn more and more complicated. Alissa wonders if Ryder still remembers or if she's just the one holding on to bad memories with him. She has always had a thing for him, but has he had a thing for her? Ryder was a part of the bad boy groups, the stoners that hung out outside of stores or outside of the school. His friends were annoying and always tended to mess with the girls. He's one of the more quiet kind but continues hanging out with them. Alissa is a part of the quiet group, that doesn't mean that she doesn't stick up for herself or argues with people least every day. She hangs out with at least two girls every day because she has no one else to stick with. She didn't mind, she didn't necessarily need many friends. People didn't like her because of her ways of saying the truth whenever it needed to be told. But this isn't your typical sassy and bad boy story, not at all. This book contains ; - body shaming. - toxic family. - purposely starving herself. - mature language - anxiety; anxiety and panic attacks.
