V had control over his demon pets Griffin, Shadow and Knightmare to help protect him from the dangers of the world.

What he didn't count on was having another protection in the form of a young woman.

This young woman went by the name of Nyra.

Nyra was drawn to V but an unknown force the moment he was created. She knew she had to be with him. Protect him.

V could sense great power within the woman and allowed her to stay by his side.

Nyra and V became quick companions, trusting each other with their deep dark secrets.

With recounting his time as V, Vergil is able to work through a lot of the feelings he had previously deemed he was unworthy to experience. Having endured the torture of losing her life alongside of the his, whom she loves more than anything, when awakened and freed, Esme continues to dream of that very loss as a reminder of what she perceives as being incapable. Even after being reunited with him and being undyingly loved by him, Esme continues to muse about that time period amongst other mysteries.
