Centuries and Centuries of  Wars and Pollution has finally collapsed Earth's atmosphere. Humanity is forced to evacuate the planet. 

Humans seek haven on the space stations built by NASA which spread out into the galaxy for hundreds of lightyears.

But the resources would eventually come to an end, there is only so much that we can exploit our own solar system and the systems in our vicinity. 

After the 4th failed mission to discover the further reaches of the universe, the scientists and engineers put all their resources in one last mission, one last space ship, one last hope for humanity,
