Jeremy Barnes was the first. He was found lifeless next to his refrigerator, the shards of his shattered mug lying beside him. The autopsy revealed nothing out of place except for a seemingly harmless microscopic bacterium that was unknown to the world of science. Could this have been the mysterious killer? Scientists and doctors immediately dismissed the idea, but thirteen year-old Ashlyn Barnes, Jeremy’s daughter, wasn’t so sure.

Ashlyn is a nerdy bookworm who loves to read. Her favorite book is "And Then There Were None", and she loves school. She's sure that the bacterium was the cause of her father’s death, but no one believes her; not even her own mother. Only her best friend, Scarlett Hynes, shares her suspicion.

As billions of people die, the world is thrown into chaos. The doctors and scientists finally realize their mistake in assuming the bacteria is harmless, and they race to find a cure. With Ashlyn and Scarlett’s help, can they eliminate the mysterious bacterium? Or will the human population be completely wiped out? Join Ashlyn in her race against the clock as her favorite novel comes to life, leaving people dead where they stand.
