Ara lives in the Philippine countryside. She goes to school just like the other village girls and boys but she has her own ideals and goals to pursue, however humble her beginnings and situations are. Chen, on the other hand, enters the same remote school as a transferee from the big city. He stays with his grandma in town. Soon, Ara will be living in that town too, for reasons she hasn't even expected nor hoped for.
