After the Calamity over one hundred years ago, civilisation has changed both for the better and for the worse.

The west side of our continent has been lost to an overbearing demonic presence, and with various different countries making up the overcrowded east, many countries are at conflict in there attempts to find unity with one and other.

To push back the demonic beasts flooding the west, 'Hunters' are deployed along the western-most borders to push back and reclaim the land lost to humanity. This place is one designed for only the best of combatants, with hunters only being trained at special academies across the remaining parts of the country.

Wanting to join this cause for their own reasons are Taliesin and Astrid, two soon to be students at Rook Academy, one of the only 5 Hunter Academies in the world. They are determined to graduate and move up from their rural backgrounds, but when half the world is in ruins and a constant threat looms over civilisation...

She gets to know the kind Blake Pangborn with whom she gets along pretty well and they immediately become friends. But next to Blake there is a mysterious boy named Elijah Blackthorn who seems to hate everything and everybody. Stuck between a friend and a love interest, Aleksa is confronted with even greater problems. The Council brings the charge against her, that she wasn't present, when Annabeth Kingsmill died. They blame Aleksa for her death. While Aleksa tries everything to get over the loss of her parabatai and to get back to the institute in Montreal, she has to struggle with the Council and them wanting her to visit the City of Bones until the hearing. But her new won friends help her and Aleksa soon finds out the real reason she was held out of the investigations considering Annabeth's death and sent to Idris. The story takes place in an imagined academy, mentioned in the TMI books by Cassie. Since I love academies I had to write about a story happening here. But the story also sets in various places over the world and reunites some familiar places from the TMI books with new impressions. New characters are introduced and also some old and well-known characters will appear during the happenings.
