The story follows Raden, as he tries to come to terms with his gender, sexuality, and the death of his best friend. Raden has always been a good artist, but the only person who ever saw his art was his best friend Shay. However after Shay dies, Raden is faced with the challenge if braving the big wide world alone. Raden is a nervous anti-social wreck for a year, beliving that Shay was the only person who new Raden inside and out. She was the only one who had ever seen his art and the only one who new he was gender fluid. However a quite literal "run in" with a member of the Gay-Straight Alliance club at his school sends Raden on a personal journey as he learns to share his art, and accept himself.
