Despite warnings of a horrible beast lurking in the forest, Eric goes inside to find the girl he saw entering, out of morbid curiosity. However, he discovers that the girl, who goes by Venlithea, has the power to control darkness and lives in the forest all by herself. He begins to befriend her, something she supposedly isn't accustomed to.

Later on, it's revealed that she is the horrible beast he was warned about, known as a Vlixeox. Seeing how she's treated by everyone in Brinegarde, coupled with his belief of wanting to see the best in people, Eric decides to help Ven with her situation. The road to help, however, has obstacles that may not be easy to overcome...

His pack needs security, his bloodline demands an heir, someone has to fill that position. What happens when the two soul-bound Alphas reconnect the day of ones wedding? Will he marry the she-wolf his pack deserve? Or the cruel green eyed human incapable of watching him promise his vows to another? A love like theirs never truly fades, their losses and defeats forever binding them. Is Kali capable of love? She's a mere soldier, a perfect huntress for the Elders to dispatch to do their bidding. Everyone has a story, a past, a nightmare. It seems Kali can no longer run from hers. What happens when she finally gives in? When that love consumes her? He'd watch humanity burn to ash, to protect what's his. Hardin is different, the five years without his mate have changed him. But Kali? She is a shadow of what she once was. Hailey Fell didn't fit in at Pinemarsh High, but if she'd known what was about to happen, she would've taken getting smoothies dumped on her head any day... Hailey didn't want to fit in anyway. The idea of perfect for Pinemarsh was not something she wanted to associate herself with. She had her dad and best friend Nolan, and she liked spending most of her time in the forest where she lived with her dad. But life wasn't easy when the two most popular people in High school had it out for you. She had been counting the days until graduation since kindergarten and now that she started her Senior year, her freedom was finally in sight. Then something strange started happening to her. Something, or someone, showed up in the forest. The shadow followed her around but never came close enough for her to see who, or what, it was. But this was only the start. Hailey was about to find out that she played a critical role in a world that she didn't know existed. Whether she liked that role or not, she had no choice but to take it. Even if she didn't know what it was going to cost her.
