After the well-known incident, America could barely live with himself. Seeing his brother and Russia so happy together only made him sad, and any chance he could have of being with Japan was crushed. Memories of the night in Detroit haunt him every night, and he finds comfort in alcohol, drugs, and fantasies of death

He gained the fear and respect, the teasing and belittlement stopped, but it wasn't worth it in his eyes.

But in those broken and tear-flooded eyes, Japan still finds the beauty and strengh behind them.
