Lara Dunning started out her day like she always did, patrolling around as a special forces team leader in the deserts of a war torn middle eastern country. But what was supposed to be a boring day of fun in the sun turned into something akin of a nightmare. Lara loses consciousness following a life threatening injury, and when she awakens, a strange older man who looks like a great mentor character tells her she is not who she thinks she is. This man tells her she is actually called Allayl Almar'a, a fierce warrior serving under him who was trained in some form of the deadly eastern martial arts. She is given an advanced set of dark black armor and is hailed as The Nightress. Lara, now Allayl, has to retrain her body, mind and soul, in order to survive long enough to figure out who she really is supposed to be. And to top it all off, she has to do this while an ever growing voice in the back of her mind slithers around her brain, clawing and fighting for dominance so it can turn Lara into something darker and far more blood soaked than she feels she's supposed to be. Lara needs to get her head on straight, and finally understand that she's not a superhero, but she damn well needs to act like one.
