I lost my grip and tumbled backward. I landed on my side and slid across the counter. My legs and tail flailed as I tried to get to my feet or slow down-but I didn't manage it in time. Almost in slow motion, my feet went off the counter as I slid into the air. Without thinking, my wings popped open and beat hard as I twisted, trying to turn right side up so I could fly properly. I blinked in shock when I realized I was already flying upward. Grinning triumphantly, I beat my wings again and went back to the counter. Pleased with my flying abilities, I proudly landed on the counter - and forgot to slow down, which promptly sent me sliding across the slippery surface, lightly colliding with the glass door. I ducked my head sheepishly, glad no one else had seen that. My eyes locked onto the gap between the glass doors. With an eager grin, I pressed my shoulder against the edge and pushed. My feet struggled to find traction, but it was opening! Once I pushed the door far enough, I scampered over to the cantaloupe. It was much bigger up close. The sky was turning bright colors as he watched, reds and oranges, reflecting off those white things into pinks and purples as well, it was the most wonderful thing that Uhar had ever seen, colors he'd never even imagined were in that sky. He watched the world in awe, feeling his ears rise with excitement. If this was the world his ancestors had left behind, he couldn't imagine why they'd ever wanted to leave.

Wings of Fire: Lemming's Story by Echoes_of_Polaris

NOTE: The following is a fanfiction inspired by Tui T Sutherland's "Wings of Fire" saga. "Wings of Fire" does not belong to me, and much of the material included in this story is fanon, not canon, though several canon characters will be making appearances throughout the story. Taking place during the events of "Book 1: The Dragonet Prophesy" and the War of SandWing Succession, this is the story of Lemming. Lemming is a young IceWing of middle class rank, who has been a loyal soldier on Blaze's side in the war for a couple years. She's small for an IceWing of her age, but has been able to use this to her advantage to become a successful soldier and survive in the war. However, after a battle takes a turn for the worse, Lemming is left as one of the few survivors and imprisoned in the SkyWing arena. This new world is more brutal than the battles she'd fought in the war, and the SkyWings don't kill for necessity -they kill for entertainment. Can Lemming survive in this new kill or be killed world, or will she be just another body to be swept from the arena sand? NOTE 2: Some of the wording and phrasing of Pt4 comes straight from "The Dragonet Prophesy". That wording was created by Tui T. Lavender is an seven year old dragonet who belongs to both tribes. She's a hybrid, born from her RainWing mother and NightWing father. Her life is wonderful, at least in her family and small village close to the edge of the Rainforest. But, she's starting to notice the change within everyone, as if they know something is coming, something bad. Lavender wants to keep her kingdom safe, just like all dragons do, but she also wants to keep everyone connected and stop them from being torn apart. Will she be able to fix the ties that brought the RainWing's and NightWing's together?
