This short story is about a Union Army camp surgeon named Deuces during the American Civil War. His little brother shares his own name and is also already a war hero at age 20. 28 year old Deuces keeps to himself and does everything he can to go unnoticed. A mad woman running across a battlefield changes that. A true friendship with an ambulance driver threatens to crack Deuces' rock hard exterior. But what really changes Deuces is a decision he'd never though he'd have to make.
