When Harlow Ryans moves to the small town of Rossland, all she can think about is how eager she is to go back to school. Grade 8 was a nightmare, with a loss that no child should have to face. Her summer has been full of moving trucks and boxes and so many long car rides from Ontario to British Columbia. But now it's her time to shine, going into Grade 9 at a brand new, state-of-the-art high school, Lone Willow Secondary. At first, things are perfect. She's welcomed into the exclusive group of the elite students, and even has her very own boy next door. But when she starts to spend more time with this boy, and that group, she realizes something isn't right here. More and more of her friends are joining the new club, The Family of Sunshine and Rainbows, and Harlow wonders why. The club promises that it will always make you happy, no matter what you want, so she soon joins, wanting to find the happiness all of her friends brag about.
But the Family isn't the sunshine and rainbows it promises. It's true that the Family will do anything to make you happy, even murder your enemies. And Harlow soon finds out the hard way, that someone wants her dead too.
As she dives deeper into the complexities of the Family, Harlow finds out there's more at play here than just a desire to make everyone happy. But this investigation may cost Harlow more than her life...
Gunshots...
I closed my eyes,
Gunshots was all I heard...
I took a deep breath
Gunshots ringing in my ear
I knew I had to run.
Gunshots ringing in the hallway
Now or never. I stood up and looked around, People running everywhere. They looked at me with a terrified face.
They were scared of ......me.
Alarms were going off and security started coming through the glass doors. "Run Harlow, run!"
