Amanda is in the park one day after moving away from her ex-husband when she finds a small boy. This would be a simple problem to solve, but this little boy is quite literally the size of her hand and his parents are nowhere to be found. Unable to leave the boy behind, Amanda decides to take the boy in and take care of him while she tries to discover the mystery of who this little boy is. He was unnaturally good at balancing. He had keen hearing and sight. His senses always felt heightened and he could predict when people were near. Humans have all but been wiped out. The few that remain stay in hiding and some even turn on their own kind just to survive. This story follows Michael. One of these few humans. Follow him as he winds up caught by one of these giants who ends up being the most unlikely ally in his mission to find out why the giants invaded and to reclaim Earth for the humans.

Everything takes place in modern day, but in a fictional reality where little beings (borrowers) live in the walls and take things that humans don't need. They're incredibly timid creatures, but excellent survivors and very agile. They'd look 100% human if not for their ears, tails, and feet. Carter is the youngest in a family of four, resilient with a daredevil spirit. After a tragic turn of events he's left to fend for his own, and manages alright, until the unimaginable happens.
