A first year student who believes passionately in direct-democracy has to uncover the dark truth about her seemingly perfect world in order to save New Britain from a power-hungry leader.

***

Athena wants to get through her first year at the New London University of Politics maintaining a reasonable influence level and taking part in as many votes as possible. Her world runs on voting: from the colour of clothing, to the price of food, everything is determined by the people.

What Athena doesn't want is to be asked to spy on a group who believe voters have less choice than they realise. Nor does she expect enigmatic Dyo to get under her skin, causing her to wonder if her society is less perfect than it seems.

But Dyo is keeping secrets too, and Athena struggles to work out who to trust and what she should do next.

Her society may be broken, but it isn't unfixable - yet. From student to spy, traitor to revolutionary, Athena must work out who she wants to be, and which side she should be fighting for, before New London's citizens have their democracy destroyed forever.

After much debate, modern day college junior, Alba Sommer, decides to join a sorority at Olympus University in IL. At first it seems Alba is being unfairly hazed. If she wants to make Kappa Zeta, she has to do whatever KZ president, Miranda Belle, tells her to. But the further Alba progresses into rushing, it becomes evident that a lot more is going on. Alba's true identity of Psyche, goddess of the soul, has ancient history with Miranda's true identity of Aphrodite. The displaced Gods begin to play out their ancient pasts as history repeats itself. Caught up in century old love triangles and disagreements, the displaced are clueless that Hades and his minions are fast on the trail to finding them in his search to recapture his beloved Persephone. Knowing these Gods are vulnerable not knowing their true identities, Hades realizes he could steal their souls to the Underworld and wage a battle with Zeus for dominion over Earth. The Adventures of Morley and Boots: The crew of the Leapfrog travel randomly about the galaxy in search of unique lifeforms to trap & trade. Intra-galactic poaching is profitable, but risky - like when an Evil Intergalactic Empire accuses you of capturing their Goddess, and you don't even know which critter she is! End Game: In an alternate near-future Indochina, Imperial France still rules, much to the chagrin of the local Siamese. Ratana's brother is captain of a premiere league football team, and a hero to the Siamese - and when he is booted from the squad to make space for the son of a powerful nobleman, it sets off a chain of events that could result in the toppling of the Empire. Self-Assembly Required: Human civilization has been almost entirely destroyed by a catastrophic plague of nanites, but one city remains, hidden and protected by Hydra, a team of all-female nano/human hybrids. Is the arrival of a roguish, lone-wolf mercenary a sign that human civilization is recovering, or the event that could destroy the few remaining survivors? The Woman from Mars: The robotic crew of the Basilisk thought humans were gone, long gone. But when they are sucked back in space and time to Jupiter's moon Europa in 2552, they discover a Viking civilization with the technology to rebuild human civilization - assuming the woman from Mars can complete her mission. Blasted Futures is a short story collection. "Any thought you ever had; memories, desires, your fears and your dreams, are all recorded and stored safely in the Quantum Cloud for your eventual revival. Death is now merely a transitional period to the next stage of your existence. As a QUBIT (quantum processing biosynthetic), you will experience a life free of disease and suffering. Time is no longer your enemy. Regret is a thing of the past. Each new day brings the promise of endless possibilities, spent in the pursuit of your own happiness, guiltless with the knowledge that there are no longer earthly constraints to inhibit you. This is the life you have always wanted. Welcome to your new beginning..." Akropolis is a city at the end of times, a sanctuary where the brightest and best have been housed since the last Great War. A genome defect has afflicted the majority of the population and scientists are desperate to find a cure. In the meantime, man has found his own salvation in the form of the QUBIT (quantum processing bio-synthetic), an android that is capable of prolonging life almost indefinitely, and yet what makes them human in the first place has been lost in the transition. The ruling council believes that salvation is nigh, but whether that hope arrives in time is questionable. The city's future depends upon the actions of a few individuals, all of whom are struggling with their own mortality. Quentin is the boy who dreams of death. Mia is the tortured soul. Trey is the soldier that defines duty. Misao is the future of the ruling council. Claire is the girl with a secret that will rock the foundations of their entire civilization. Unbeknownst to them, the entire fate of Akropolis lies in their hands. Either humanity will find a way to survive or it will sink slowly into the sea of extinction.

"There is so much at stake that I'm afraid to lose, I'm not sure I can handle it if I fail," I say, the emotions inside of me twisting and turning, readying themselves to be used but warm hands encased mine, forcing me to hold them back. "There is a reason we all follow you. Not because you're the greatest leader, but because you know you're not. You make mistakes, you learn and you love. There is a war inside you that is beautifully controlled, but now, it's time to set it free. You are not just anybody, you are a fighter, a friend, a leader. . . tell me who you are." Suddenly, newfound confidence washed over me, my shoulders straightened, a smile spread across my lips and I answered, "I am Athena." ---------- Freed from an institute that used people like her for their own selfish gain, Athena took it upon herself to reinvent the place that once brought her so much pain and suffering. She is now the leader of this new Aeterian facility, taking in powered people like her, growing in numbers and trying to live the way they've wanted to for so many years, but as usual, nothing great lasts forever.
