Lance has gone mad. Insane. Crazy, as some would put it. 
After being kidnapped by Lotor, Lance was tortured and fought but gave up and joined the other side. Leaving everything behind; Voltron, his family and his life. He just couldn't do it anymore and he became an assassin for the Galra empire.
One day he was sent out on a mission to assassinate someone but found that he couldn't, as the person he had to kill was Keith. The love of his life, his rival and now the one he had to kill. Not wanting his boss to know that he had a weak spot he captures Keith and tells him to keep his mouth shut of his existence to the rest of Voltron.

Lance verbally abused him and Pidge is forced into the torture but she tried to resist but always joins in. Hunk and coran usually try and stop it but to no prevail. Keith get captured by the galra prince. He soon gains his trust and starts to feel safe with him. They are his new family.

Lance knows that he's annoying. He knows that he's a flirt, and that his jokes are always terrible. That's why the kidnapping by the Galra fleet, didn't bother him all that much.
