After a close finish in the Kalos League, Ash Ketchum decided he's not done just yet int he Kalos Region. With one year until the next Kalos League, Ash travels with his friends to different regions so that he can grow stronger and return to Kalos and win the league. 

Meanwhile, Serena decided to pursue both of her dreams by participating in contests as she travels with her friends around regions like Hoenn and Sinnoh; while also attempting to work up the courage to confess to Ash and share her true feelings with him. 

Clemont and Bonnie continue their journey, and Bonnie is given permission to acquire a new kind of trainer licence, the Provisional Trainers License! With Dedenne by her side, the young new trainer will earn badges and prepare herself to compete in leagues around the world. All the while, Clemont continues to practice inventing and betters himself with the help of his friends while also dealing with his sister being a trainer.
