I knew it was time for me to leave. But I needed to exit in a way that wasn't offensive. I didn't know how he'd respond if I tried to leave too soon.

"You didn't answer my question." he grunted as he grabbed the back of my hair so tightly I could feel the roots lifting. 

"Kevin! Kevin, calm down! You're drunk, Sweetie. Let my hair go please. I will answer any question you have." 

My heart was beating louder than a helicopter about to land. I knew not to scream, I felt it would only excite him more. I needed to de-escalate things. 

He let go of my hair and gave me a crooked smile. "I'm just playing around Jessie, lighten up," he said and started to laugh and tickle me.

I hated being ticked.

A few years after high school, and Jessie still  had no idea of what to do with her life. She was living in a cramped apartment, working a dead-end job, and her boyfriend was m.i.a. 

Plagued by restlessness, she ventures out for a solo night on the town that ends with a  violent murder. Now, as she tries to pull herself together, she can't shake the feeling that someone or something is following her.
