Malakai Spade, Aspen Sallow, and a group of refugees go out in search of Asher Sallow, who holds the key to wiping out the hybrid human species, Vax, as well as other Vax who had turned back into normal humans.
Their search takes a turn when they find out where Asher had fled to, and how much of the human population had actually turned into Vax.

Every thousand years a portal opens that takes whoever enters to the world they most desire to go. Most people could care less about the portal opening as they are happy with and don't want to leave their real lives. Well everyone except for two girls, Harley Jones and Jade Smith. They had always had a fascination with the portal. Harley more than Jade, as Jade just wanted Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue, while Harley want Niklaus Mikaelson from The Originals and Vampire Diaries. After they enter the portal things change as they no have new identity's, family's, and they aren't even human anymore. (Year 2029) Its pointless finding another job, people are dying and turning into brainless, killer alien-zombie-things day-by-day. He keeps his dog Niko by his side daily. Him and Niko try to roam the world to try and survive until SOMEONE, or at least ANYONE finds an antidote. If time starts running out, Nate promised himself he'd start looking for a scientist. Or he's try himself. If not, What's the point on living on a human-less earth? There's barely any animals left either, and most of them have gone rabid anyways. Its surprising Niko hasn't. He has yet to find even a hint of an antidote, but he refuses to start giving up hope just yet. He's only 5 years into the breakout. Only 5 years... What's a few more gonna hurt?
