A young female medic, Ruyi enters the Song palace to protect her brother who has been conscripted for the war against the Qing empire.

Set in a fictional world inspired by Ancient China, The Pearls is a series about four young women, Ruyi, Meilin, Jia and Yunmei, whose stories become interconnected despite their different beginnings. They are connected through the tragedy and hardships in their lives.

Two empires war against one another. Nation against nation. Man against man. One woman makes it her mission to do good and to save lives. This is Ruyi's story. She is a woman in a man's world, trying to do man's work. Along the way she learns about her inner strength, finds courage in her chosen sisters, and discovers love in the most unlikely of places.
