Simply put: this story is going to be a mess. I can't think straight because there are 88 million ideas in my head and my fingers don't move fast enough. Let's begin.

//

The mayor held an assembly when the accident happened. He said a few words, told us how tragedies like this must be prevented. We wiped our faces with dry cloth, silently agreeing that it was a tragedy, but only if it hadn't happened to Peter Barrs. Even the mayor felt the weight of the silence, understood what the dry cheeks and superficial dark clothing meant.

When Peter Barrs is finally dropped into the ground, laid at rest in heaven or hell or purgatory, not even his son and daughter cry for him. Not even to continue the show.

//

Naomi Barrs lives in turmoil. Guilty that her fathers death means nothing to her, anxious that after this year, high school won't be her support, she's resolved herself to nihilism. But a stranger is in town, a beautiful girl with bright blue eyes, horribly dark secrets, and a knack for breaking the rules. But when everything around you is crumbling, is it really worth holding onto one thing, even if it started the earthquake in the first place?
