I scrape my fingers against the burned rubble and ashes of the small cottage hut. It has been 15 years, but I feel like I can still smell the unmistakable odor of burning wood. The memory hits me like it is fresh, and I have to grind my teeth to fight back tears. It's my birthday, and I celebrate every year by visiting the only childhood memory I have: the one where my mother tried to kill us. She was always known as insane, but went over the line when she discovered my father had died. I cannot blame her for her grief, the only person I blame for my family's struggle and my suffering is Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire. My sole ambition in life is to kill her. My name is Kyra Odair, and this is my story.
