After five years as a firefighter, Rayne Jenkins thought it was high time for her to try her luck at applying for a lieutenant position at Station 12. And thus far, her chances of being granted that application was high.

Except then her captain announced a new guy joining her station - a Lieutenant - and Lieutenant Jake Jackson used to sleep with Rayne's best friend.

Not only did Rayne absolutely hate the guy for reasons that she refused to tell anyone. But his appearance at Station 12 was a huge threat to her chances of ever becoming a lieutenant at all - and that did nothing but made Rayne dislike him more.

It was awkward. Difficult. Disappointing. But Rayne was nothing but professional, so she had to find a way to work with a boss that she dislikes, even if it will probably drive her mad in the end.
