The city they live in doesn't actually exist but basically it's a city like New York but when you leave the city you go to the suburbs with the forest behind it and if when leaving the city you go more towards the water that's when you hit the rich suburbs and that's where Wester Sunset is. The lake is like a beach and Wester Sunset is a hill that has a cliff that falls directly into the lake. In chapter 11 there's a map of this world.
