They called Ramona Sanchez a student prodigy. She skipped two grades, got an internship at the Smithsonian museum, and was predicted to graduate onto an Ivy League university. All of that went away with her mom's death. 

Now, Ramona's is a complete mess. She's failing all her of her classes, can't stop crying, and her ex-boyfriend refuses to leave her alone. 

Donovan Belrose-Han comes from the other side of the town, where knife fights and street races are part of everyday life. When he accidentally rescues Ramona from her ex-boyfriend, her father hires him on as her babysitter.
