Ratonhnhaké:ton is the young leader of his tribe. He has become of age to pick a wife. Marilyn is a young girl who is orphaned. She lives in the settlement of Baltimore.  Marilyn had just barely become of age for marriage. 

Ratons tribe sets up a deal with the settlement of Baltimore. In exchange for peace, the settlement will give a girl to the young leader as his bride. 

Marilyn being the only person that no-one cares about being given away, is forced to leave and bare Ratons Children. She is scared to death of what is to become of her.
