Dean borrowing Cas's book doesn't bring them closer, but more distance. Until Sammy and Cas bound over books without pictures in the school library. Dean finds the two exchange supernatural books every morning before home class, he gets curious and wants to know more about this Castiel. But before he got the chance, they were back on the road.
However, the Winchesters end back in that town, years and years later, working on a case that involves Cas. But why Cas?
