Jenna Hovat-Vollick, daughter of the war heroes Lady Kalia Hovat-Rosk and Ivan Vollick, fourth in line for the throne of the independent Principality of Hovalli, has had enough of living in her cousin's shadow. He is more powerful, more popular and more successful. It isn't his fault of course, and he is family after all, but Jenna must also live up to the Hovat name.

When her mother, now first ambassador to Ilyar, the Centre of Civilisation, is reportedly kidnapped Jenna receives her opportunity. Joining the diplomatic team sent by Prince Dorien to investigate, in a new land with its own laws and mysterious demons, Jenna must stay true to herself and forge her own legacy.
