You kinda get used to it after awhile. It doesn't make it too easy to sleep but certainly keeps you awake long enough for guard duty. That's why I got into this line of business. "Screamers" is what they call us, the civilians, I mean, they call us "Screamers." I'm not really sure why, but they do. Up in that dark, dank, bleak world they apparently call "home sweet home" Civilians look down on us; they think  risking our lives, coming to the surface is nothing. Tell us we've gone "soft".I honestly turn a deaf ear to them. Nowadays, they don't even call us "Screamers"; they call us "Softies." Gods, it's so annoying.....
