In a nutshell, Johnny has crushes on Peter and Spider-Man because of pure coincidence and tries to win them both over, New York city doesn't really like Spidey, Peter is annoyed but over time gets less annoyed, Johnny's family are all idiots, and both of them go on a sexuality discovering journey  
(This doesn't take place in the MCU so no Iron-Dad, Ned Leeds, or Michelle Jones)
