It started as a typical summer afternoon. Kaytlyn, Emily, Daniel, and Ruth got together for book club, to discuss The Underground Railroad, the Civil War, and slavery. Then a mysterious old lady invites them for a little field trip to see her secret room used in the Underground Railroad. The children can't resist, so they eagerly climb in... and then everything goes black. They each wake up in different places during the Civil War, and must find each other in order to return home. Meanwhile, they are each learning first-hand the horrors of slavery, war, and sickness.
