Growing Together

Ellie has always been fairly independent since she was a young girl. Though she was independent she was very loving and family oriented. She would play with her little brother all the time and teach him everything he needed to know. You see, her brother can't go to school because in her district, having a second child is illegal because they have strict 'population control' rules.
About 16 years ago, a war started and the district, formally known as a state, where her family lives quickly ran out of food. When that generation passed off, they created new laws and in turn, this affected a lot of the families in the area since they had multitudes of children, averaging at 3 kids per family. This law, however, didn't affect Ellie's family because Robert and Catherine, Ellie's parents, were just starting their family. Eleven years after the war, Catherine found out she was pregnant. Robert freaked out and decided to enlist in the war. A few weeks later, Robert enlisted into the military but after a month he had severe PTSD and overdosed, leaving Ellie and her family alone.
