Penelope grew up in a wealthy family, which brought certain expectations. Expectations of marrying someone her parents chose. She accepts the proposal of a man 20 years older to ensure the future of her family's legacy, against her own wishes. She feels defeated until she falls in love. For love, she's ready to leave everything behind and build a life she chooses. Then disaster strikes. Her city, Halifax is shaken by an explosion which leaves the city devastated, and over 9 thousand injured or dead. From that moment on, her life is never the same. It becomes fractured, just like her city. Fractured City is about love, loss, and rebuilding your life from the ashes. It's a story of resilience, determination and the impact it can have for generations. The Halifax Explosion is a real event , and this story does weave real events and situations into it, however it's essentially a work of fiction. "Once upon a time, there was a special child who never aged. To protect it from harm, I hid it within myself, until one day I forgot it was there." What happens when your child is taught to hate you? When Sienna falls in love, she embraces her partner's young daughters, Adele and Nina, with an open heart. But her dream of a happy, blended family is fragile. Unseen by them, a campaign of manipulation has already begun, its goal to poison the girls' hearts against the father they adore. Told from the unique and often silent perspective of a stepmother, this poignant memoir exposes the devastating reality of parental alienation and the profound grief of mourning children who are still alive. Yet, Hope is a Gentle Flicker is ultimately a story of courageous love. It is a testament to getting lost in order to be found anew, and to the unwavering commitment of a father and stepmother who choose to love in the face of rejection, protecting that fragile flicker of hope day after day, year after year, waiting to be a family again. A gripping and emotionally charged story for anyone who believes in the resilience of the human heart.
