Eric didn't stop until he was pressed flush against me. I kept my head down to hide my blush. Eric put his hands on my shoulders and let them glide down my arms until they met at my hands. Eric then used his index finger on his right hand to lift my chin to look at him. His eyes were deep and intense. Instead of their usual piercing gray-green, they were a dark shade of gray, almost black. His other hand tucked a strand of hair behind my ear then continued to trace a slow line down the side of my face and chin, coming to my top lip then sliding down, lingering on my bottom lip before resting on my hip. "Eric." My voice was barely a whisper as my heart thundered in my chest. "I think I figured out why I act the way I do around you..."

Dauntless has created an image for Eric after an incident during his initiation and no one knows the real him nor do they want to know the real him. When it is time for new initiates, he has to overlook their training as part of his leader training. When an Amity transfer gets a little too close to Eric, she wants to know who he really is, NOT the ruthless leader image he projects to be. Eric doesn't know how to react because no one has ever tried to get close to him before so how should he react? Will he react in a good or bad way? Does she despise the real Eric or will she help him let go of the past and love the real him? All rights/ credits go to Veronica Roth.
