Vad händer när allt hon tror på är en lögn? hela hennes uppväxt. Athena är 25 år och jobbar som dektektiv hos Los Angeles poliskår. När hennes pappa blir mördad - eller det är vad alla tror- börjar hon sin egna sökning av hennes pappa. Inget blir vad hon har tänkt sig.
"Jag satt på stranden med en främmande man bredvid mig. Jag lät en tår glida ned från min kind medans jag kollade ut mot det blåa havet och såg på när några plastpåsar gled mot land. Jag grät inte för plastpåsarna den här gången som säkert hade dödat massa havsdjur, utan jag grät över Xavier. Jag skulle aldrig kunnat gissa att allt som har hänt de senaste veckorna skulle leda till det här. Vi två satt här på stranden och kollade ut mot solnedgången i en skön tystnad.
