Born to the town of Grimsby I was the son of two-book binders. I was taken from my family as a child to a place I had never heard or seen. This place was full of warmth and wonder I could hardly dream. This place showed me kindness when all comfort was torn from me. This place was a wonderful friend, and I am writing this letter because I don't know if he will ever set us free.

Looking back, maybe it wasn't all that bad. Sometimes I wonder if life would've been different had we forgotten the path, if I had never discovered the truth. Maybe that's selfish. But we might've been happier... or at least, that's what I like to believe. Magic flows through this world. Spark flows through our veins. Ash makes dreams of the impossible... possible. Not much is known about the phenomenon that struck the world on the day a tree was born, and on the day a tree died. It goes by many names, but serves the same purpose: mana that binds the soul, pulse that strengthens the body, enchantment that changes reality. Even now, no one truly understands it. It chooses its own vessels, and once it touches you, it never truly lets go. I wish that was all I had to tell you. But my story is darker, filled with sacrifice, broken paths, and loss. My name is Maddox. We should've never left the orphanage. But what choice did we really have? House of Hules by Doxx
