In District 10, everyone is hungry but no one wants to play the games.

Maple Heights has the job of keeping her family of five fed and alive and she is willing to stick her hands deep into the gut of a pig to do so. She is even willing to put her name more times in the reaping, the process that determines which teens will be sent into an arena to fight each other to the death, for more grain. But it never crossed Maple's mind that she might be chosen.

Now, Maple is thrown into the politics of the cruel Capitol where one wrong word means her family dies and the challenge of the murderous Hunger Games, but she never thought the boy she would be against would be one she loved.
