It is in the middle of the Second Giant War. The Second Great Prophecy has already occurred and the Doors of Death are closed. Now the Seven are fighting Gaea's forces and Gaea is weakening.
Nico di Angelo was once captured by Gaea. He was found by the Seven and now he's at camp. All Nico wants is to honor his father and fight alongside his friends. But now, Chiron has tasked him with another mission that could possibly be more dangerous: recruiting demigods.
Kaitlyn Jefferson once had a normal life, or as normal as a demigod's can get. All she wants is to feel like she belongs. But after encountering Nico di Angelo, she has no family, no friends. And to top it all off, an enemy is rising that not even the gods have ever fought before.

I didn't really think of myself as an extra special person. I didn't look in the mirror and see a girl with extraordinary powers, I would see a girl with a face full of curiosity and confidence, but nothing too special.
