Rise and Shine

Born as a child of rape, Esperanza Morales has always been different from everyone else, without a father (well, one in prison), and with a mother who resents her existance. After being tormented both mentally and physically at school and neglected at home, Esperanza decides to run away, trying to start a new life. And, over a year after leaving, she finds herself on the side of the highway after her forty-something boyfriend gets caught in the act of cheating, he dumps her and she's on her own again. Drowning in her guilt for ruining someone's marriage and ruining her mother's life, she tries to commit suicide, when a tour bus for 'Rise and Shine' picks her up and tries to save her from her self-destruction. But how can they get through to a girl who's life has only known pain?
