10 year old Kate Rivendale lives in a world where there are Fates(people with super powers) and Regulars(normal people).Fates are extremely wealthy,while Regulars are poor.Her existence is not to be revealed to the world until she turns ten,and takes the Test,determining if she is either of those.When she fails the Test,her enraged parents beat her and strip her of her noble name and throw her out,losing complete contact with her older brother.She earns the title of a Twine,or a child who was in a Fate family.Traumatized,she changes her full name.Now three years later,she is far-sighted,bullied at her school,and living alone in a student dorm.
