Vanessa Ireden is used to winning. She's a good rider, and has the best horses to do it.
Medallion was supposed to be one of those horses, but the quirky mare has no intentions of doing so. For five months she frustrated Vanessa, so Vanessa decides she has no choice but to sell her.
However, when what would have been her third win of the eventing season is stolen from her by a gray gelding called Challenger, and his rider, Tessa Wellen, her world starts changing.
Intrigued by the gray gelding, Vanessa wants to buy him. But Tessa turns her down firmly, and Vanessa can't understand why, until she rides him herself and finds out the gray gelding is not as easy to handle as she thought.
