#Kalank is a Dharma production inspired by the school of Bhansali. The final product is a half baked cake, although great to look at but final product is totally unappetizing.

The technical look of the film - from costumes to production design to cinematography are on point. The problem lies in the story and it's narrative, which results in a shoddy script that doesn't invest us in the directors vision. There are loaded dialogues that sound hollow and shallow, screenplay is choppy cutting from one scene to another that has no flow and editing is erratic esp when told in flashback scenes.

The ensemble cast had me high on expectations and each of them, while very talented, didn't work as a team for me. The chemistry between lead pair was as flat as a soda bottle opened for days. The arc of Alia's character has no backstory so remained a mystery making it hard for her talent to come out. Varun Dhawan looks good and is probably most earnest along actor here along with Sonakshi Sinha who are both convincing on their parts. Aditya Roy Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt do their emoting with eyes but don't collectively win a medal. Surprisingly Kunal Khemu convinced me quite a bit on his part.

Most Songs are unnecessary, except the title track that does wriggle a sentiment. Madhuris solo number is underwhelming with the whole facade for time and place, where the story is set in, gives me a cringe (esp the over CGX inspired inconsequential bull sequence). Also the background of partition is totally underutilized for a love story that is set as a period drama (Bollywood has done this way better in past).

If you do watch it once, check out the shawls of Sanjay Dutt and dresses/jewelry of the women in the film - the only two very striking things in the movie. I expect better from Dharma and Alia/Varun pairing.

On a lighter note, Has someone figured where those shawls are from? 😉

Lin Yin was an unfortunate girl who lived in the slums for eighteen years because of mistaken identities at birth. Even though she was brought back to live with her real parents, there was no place for her amongst them. She was constantly bullied and scolded for no reason; her own biological parents would leave her in the dirt just because Su Fei shed a tear. Swindled, and betrayed the very person she fell in love with, she was finally going to escape her dark life when she realized that it was all a setup - that she was just a clown. She dragged her poisoned body as she tried to escape, but she was killed regardless at the loud crack of a gunshot. Her departed spirit watched as her biological parents coldly said, "She has never been our daughter. Burn her, throw her into the dirt - you can do whatever you like." As the guest left, a man stood sighing with sympathy. "Take her to a funeral home. Let's hope that in her next life, she can live for herself and not suffer so much grief." How laughable it was that she had lived for so long, but a stranger turned out to be the one who gave her a proper funeral! Soon, Lin Yin lost consciousness, and woke up to find that she had gone back in time, to the first year after she returned to the Su family! This time, she decided to live for herself without compromise! Still, just as she thought she would have to do this alone, she never imagined that she would be reunited with three brothers, although they never showed up in her last life! They were Mu Heng, the magnate, Mu Qing, the prodigious doctor, and Mu Ran, the heartthrob and movie star! In her last life, she gave her heart to the wrong people and suffered a tragic end, but in this life, her brothers were pampering her to death! Mu Heng: She's my sister! I'll protect her! Mu Qing: Who dares bully my sister! Mu Ran: She's my sister! I'll spoil her! Lu Ming: She's my wife! I'll watch over her! Mu Heng, Mu Qing, and Mu Ran: Get out!

"I wish I had never met you!" Deepika's voice echoed across the classroom, each word a dagger to my heart. "Excellent! At least we finally agree on something!" I fired back, even as a tear betrayed the storm of emotions within me. With those final, stinging words, Deepika stormed out, leaving a heavy silence in her wake. The classroom felt like a graveyard, and I stood there, rooted to the spot, desperately wishing I could chase after her and demand the truth. Maybe letting her go was the right choice. Perhaps this is meant to be my unfinished love story, a tale of what-ifs and almosts... ✨ No Deepika. This can't be his bike. Not Arjun's. But I couldn't deny what I saw-the familiar brown Royal Enfield, now twisted and crushed. My heart hammered as I circled around, hoping, praying it wasn't true, until my gaze landed on the number plate: TN56 0809. Arjun's bike. Deepika! Stop imagining things! Arjun would be fine! I felt the world shift, the noise around me blurring into a single, deafening hum. Ambulance and police sirens echoed, and a stranger's voice broke through: "Two boys. Spot dead. College students." I clutched my chest, gasping for air as reality slammed into me. "Arjun..." I whispered, barely holding myself together. Tears stung my face as I sank beside the wreck. "No, Please, No!" My voice cracked as the weight of regret settled in, suffocating me. ✨ Ex-Crush: More than just a crush, but a little less than love. ✨ Arjun and Deepika were hopelessly in love-only they never realized it. Will they find their way to each other, or will their love story remain forever unfinished? ✨ Join Arjun and Deepika on a journey back to those dreamy college days-days where every moment felt eternal, love was unspoken yet ever present, where friendship bloomed like wildflowers, offering a sanctuary from the harsh winds of reality. Come, wander with them through the corridors of college days, where the echoes of laughter still linger.
