Taylor Savage is fresh out of high school, and already has plans to move into a college dorm with her best friends, Phoebe, Scarlett, and Erin, as well as pursue her dream job in psychology. However, her plans and dreams are suddenly ripped away from her when she is told on her eighteenth birthday that she is a witch, and that she and her friends will be sent to Kryptose Academy for three years to be trained how to use their magic, and ultimately decide what role in the witch community they want to pursue. The only problem is that Taylor has no desire to be a witch or abandon her plans so easily. And, she doesn't want to control her new magic and become a puppet to the witching community; she wants to do whatever she wants with her powers, and be her own person. Taylor has no plans to follow any rules, or listen to anyone other than herself. And, this becomes a problem when she realizes that her powers are stronger than anyone could imagine... and the Council wants her power. The Council is a powerful group of witches who rule over the entire witch species. At the end of the year, every academy selects one witch to be sent to compete against other witches from other academies, until one comes out victorious and is placed on the Council. Taylor has no desire to be a part of the Council; she views them as controlling and manipulative, and she doesn't want to be anyone's puppet. But, Taylor has no choice but to try and join, because if she doesn't get on the Council, they'll kill her. Witch drama aside, Taylor's also got a lot of average teen-girl drama, too. The handsome bad boy, Chris, has taken an interest in her, and she's drawn to him, and instantly becomes head-over-heels. Not to mention the flirty, popular boy, Ash, who she starts to get close with, and his bitchy girlfriend, Charlie, who is determined to make her life a living hell. Yeah, being a witch isn't all sunshine and rainbows.
