"Hoam," I yawned.

 It is 5 a.m. in the morning. . .

. . .and here we are, in the middle of the beach.

At first, I reluctantly agree. I would love to spend some times with my best friends.

But now, it felt like regret. I am just so sleepy that I can't no longer keep my eyes open.

"Are you okay, Max?" Hedgehog asked. 

I tried to smile as good as I could, "I guess, I am fine."

"I thought bat was a nocturnal animal," she replied calmly. Stating a smart fact from her genius brain---which was actually cute.

"Well," I muttered. "I might be a bat, but I didn't sleep when the sun is calling." 

She nodded in respect. 

At the same time, confused looking Oscar was standing in the middle of us.

Ash gently floated through the breeze of the wind, and all of the ash was coming from the place that had fallen before my very eyes. I leaned my body up, so that I could get a better view of this place in front of me. I took in a deep breath as I smiled, the loud sounds and the beating of my heart, along with the fear and anxiety that I had felt before, all went away with the silence. Times like these were hard to come by after all of the things that I have been through. Though no matter how many times I wanted to feel victorious, no matter how many times I wanted to tell myself that it was all over, I couldn't. This happened quite frequently and fast, one second I get powers from a magic rock, and the next second, well, I wish I had never touched that rock. Sometimes I think I'm going to go insane, I wish I could go back in time and be a normal kid once more. It was better then, I was less stressed, and I didn't have villains to deal with, but I know eventually I will be at peace, and I won't have a care in the world. The night is dark. There's no moon, no stars. We rush through the thicket of the woods. The sound we hear is the pounding of our running feet. We run into low hanging branches, fighting against them until we stumble until a clearing. My partner grabs my arm and leads me down another path. "Wait! Where are the others?" I shake my arm from their grasp. "Where are they?" There was a stillness to the dark woods. The type of stillness that holds danger within its shadows. "They'll be fine!" I get pulled back down the path that I was being led to anyhow. "They know what to do. They won't find us if we stay separated." I ran alongside my hidden pair. The moon is at its peak at night. It shows us the way. "It's not him I am worried about, Sunistral. It's her." I hear a sharp breath behind us. I swear it was! But it was disguised as a searing gust of cold wind. When I looked back, there was nothing. Just an endless pit of darkness. It was then that I knew that it had found us. This dream somehow finds me ever night. And every night I wake up in absolute confusion. I have no memory of my parents or where I came from. The only true constant of my existence is the visits that my nightmares make at night and during the day. I have yet to understand the echos of them. Until I find myself where it all began: at Pearl Academy.

"Who are you?" I demand. The boy in front of me replies, "That's not how this works, love." I freeze. That phrase. That voice. It can't be. I look up but he's just a cloaked silhouette. The lamps lit, and I see his face. "Whoa," slips from my lips as I stare at the boy in front of me. His eyes widen and his jaw almost, just almost, drops. With his guard down for that one instant I lose all fear and gain control. "You!" I yell suddenly overflowing with anger. My stomach heats with rage. I fight to stand, stronger this time with anger as fuel. He backs up, his breath increasing. Obviously, uneasy, I take it as a win and almost stand all the way. "You. What are you doing here? How did you find this place!" He switched to angry. "You! You're the reason! They put me back because of you! It was all cause of you! It was your fault! All of it!" I'm so angry I yell only what I can. My thoughts flying through my head I can only yell unexplained nonsense. I've never felt anger like this before. The red glow lightly pours off my own skin and I take notice to it. I compare it to the glow coming off of him. Suddenly, it's an instinct to allow the anger to explode and in doing so the red glow is taken from his chest as I absorb it all and throw it out in all directions. I yank down away from the boy holding me just as the red glow gets sucked from him, absorbed into my hands, and then thrown out in a sphere of red glow. All boys stumbling but not by much and the one holding me gets knocked back, I'm free. "You die now, Peter Pan!"

The sky was a flat, depressing grey and the incessant, soaking rain left her constantly chilled. It was a typical "liquid sunshine" day in the Pacific Northwest. They drove past a single tall scraggly tree on top of a hill shrouded in mist. The creepy tree was full of screaming crows. How could she hear them from inside the bus when she couldn't even seem to hear the voices of the kids around her? Geez, that was an awfully freaking dark image. She shivered and looked away. What did they call a group of crows again? Right, a murder of crows. Perfect. The weather was certainly the only thing that was typical these days, although you'd never know it by looking around the bus at most of the kids as they sat joking and gossiping with each other just like they had before... before that day everything had changed. Royce was two years older than me and had the prettiest purplish eyes and blonde hair. He was the most charismatic person I'd ever met. Then shortly after me and Royce's first appearance we met Jack and Koa. It was amazing and I loved every second of it, until I realized that I had fallen for Royce. And he seemed to fall for me too!
