Kelsey Adams lived with her Aunt Marie and her twin brothers Clive and Clyde in Minnesota . After Aunt Marie lost her job and the family home, they moved to a small town called Shutterville to start a new life. Shutterville seemed to be the paradise of small towns, with friendly neighbors, children riding their bikes along the streets, an amusement park, and pizza parlors on every street corner. It was perfect. The small town was a dream come true, but Kelsey was not impressed. She had secretly hated the thought of moving and blamed her Aunt for all of her misfortunes. Kelsey made herself a promise that no matter what it took, she would move back to Minnesota and resume her life. However, soon after meeting Evelyn, Kelsey discovers that the small town was not all that it seemed and even a perfect paradise has unturned stones.
