Even living with foster parents, Rose Brown keeps her sweet personality straight. She knows when to use the sass and sarcasm. She has a difficult relationship aka her "parents", but she manages to keep herself happy and still lives her life.

Anthea Davis in a nutshell? Dear Heavens, save us all. She's intelligent and she knows it, and doesn't mind flaunting it around. Her father doesn't approve of anything she does, but she doesn't really care. Anthea values her mind more than her heart, and keeps everything rational.

Living the life as the popular girl, Emily Johnson lives with her strict mother and asshole of a boyfriend. The only reason she still dates him is to keep her social status boosted, and it works. Emily thinks with her heart rather than her head.

Linked through their daydreams, all three girls have no clue of who they're talking to. They just know that there is someone in their head and speaking, let alone that they are real girls that are in their very own class. When all three get stuck with detention, soon the pieces are put together.

Then tragedy strikes. Rose has lost her family, Anthea lost what small safety she had, and Emily lost her image and reputation. Now stuck as outcasts among their families and comrades, all wish of a new place. A new world to be themselves and accepted, and each write about it longingly.
