Laurie Nicolas is just another human girl in a world full of human girls. Her dad is a fisherman, while her mother trains as a nurse. For her, life pretty much sucks since she isn't a Necromancer; the humanoid but devilish Elites that rule San Noir who have an uncanny resemblance to the mythical vampire. They feed on human blood, and everyone has the scars to prove that the Elite feed on humans. Literally. But so what? It doesn't matter to Laurie that she bleeds every time she goes to the market; the only thing she cares about is that life stays as it always has been; with her horses healthy and her little sister happy. And so far, things are going pretty good. Until she just happens to bump into one of the revered Generals, Ashton Black. He's the living reminder of how superior the Necromancers are to the humans; their superhuman strength, speed, and agility are unmatched and Ashton has taken his to the next level. Laurie hates him. It's almost like that strange feeling where a person feels as if someone is standing behind them, but when they turn around, no one is there. The intensity of those feelings crept closer and stronger with each passing year. It was only a matter of time before Hell's gates would open, and once more, Lucifer would come for Kira, as well as everyone and everything she loved, including Tara, Alice, and anyone standing in his way.

A short story prompt for a writing club I'm in I had a month to write it and a 12.5k word limit! It deserves to be longer so I probably should have done something that works well with the limit, but I had a really fun time writing out a concept start for this larger story I'm working on :) Again, this is a concept story! it has it's flaws, I look forward to rewriting it sometime in the future :) The story will explain things somewhat as you read through, but if you would like, here is a setting synopsis: At the end of the 21st century humanity fell to a incurable blight, the Blood Curse, and civilization as it was known collapsed with it. It was only through the biological properties of vampires, whom have existed as long as humans, that humanity could safely stave off the curse. One thousand years later, humanity and vampires have grown together through this mutual need, human's needing their curses to be sated, Vampires needing human blood for sustenance. A once tumultuous relationship of predator and prey now was one of equal standing and reverence. Not all human's have taken kindly to this new order of things however, and societies do exist that reject vampires and dangerously brave the curse on their own. In recent years these human's have become more brave and more daring, and in an ambush on Wyatt's village, Karva the town vampire has been injured and cannot satiate the curse for a time, right when a young child, Kuuno, is in dire need of it. Wyatt, a fledgling vampire yet to conquer their thirst for blood, Yeshen a doctor's apprentice, and Kuuno, the young child, venture out into the woods set for the nearest village and it's vampire to save the young boy.
