Highest ranking: #1 in Teen Fiction -- "Sunshine, what guy do you know has a weird fetish with sign language?" She's the aftermath of a high school party nightmare. Tragedy robbed her of her innocence and stole her voice before she had the chance to speak out. The court called her a liar, and the guilty was set free. Now memories plague her mind and trap her in solitude. She was forced to learn sign language, struggling to find a way to voice her silence. He's the definition of the boy she tried to stay away from. The epitome of harsh rumors and hopeless fantasies. The source of lies and blame. He's analyzed, misunderstood, and utterly mysterious. And he may be the one to find her voice. When they meet, she gets accustomed to his arrogance and he gets accustomed to her silence. After an accident in eighth grade, Louisa Kelley was blind. Every day was a struggle for her as she tried to adjust to life both at school and at home, but life got easier with practice. As soon as Louisa entered high school, things had changed for the worse. The students around her bullied her because she was different, harassing her, stealing her things, and talking about her behind her back, making an already difficult life so much harder. Now in her junior year of high school, Louisa is broken and without anyone to call a friend. She eventually decides to remove herself from the bullies that surround her daily and be home schooled. That is, until she met Alex. Alex Mirren was born deaf, but when he was six years old, he received a cochlea implant that allowed him to hear. Even after the ten years of speech therapy where he had to teach himself how to hear, Alex prefers to stay in the silence and only communicates with the world when necessary. Life seemed dull to him as he was stuck in between two worlds of silence and noise, not knowing his purpose or place in society. That is, until he saw a girl with a walking stick in the hallways. Louisa and Alex weren't made for each other. Although the very presence of each other gives them new hope and strength, things are difficult as Louisa thrives by using her hearing, while Alex shies away from sound and uses sight. Without being able to communicate easily, they must learn to overcome the barrier of the silence between them, which is easier said than done. But aren't the struggles worth it to be with that one person that means everything?

The Silence Between Us

15 parts Complete

In a quiet coastal town haunted by its own history, two strangers meet under the weight of silence-each carrying wounds they refuse to name. The Silence Between Us is a slow-burning, emotionally layered novel told through dual perspectives: Elias, a reclusive piano tuner who hasn't spoken in seven years, and Mara, a speech therapist escaping her own shattered past. Their paths cross when Mara is assigned to Elias's case, tasked with helping him "find his voice." But what begins as a clinical assignment soon unravels into a delicate dance of memory, music, and buried truths. As the town's secrets seep into their sessions, Mara and Elias must confront not only the silence between them-but the silences within themselves. Spanning decades and interwoven with letters, journal entries, and musical motifs, this novel explores how silence can be both a prison and a refuge-and how breaking it can be the most dangerous act of all.
