Romance
-On an island city built on corruption, a woman with a violent past delivers letters by day and keeps her secrets locked away at night. But when the men next door-enforcers in the city's shadow war-take an interest in her, she learns that even in exile, there's no outrunning who you were made to be. ---------- Robin wasn't always a killer. Once, she was just a girl trying to survive the man who owned her. Now, in her mid-twenties, she's on the run-from him, from her past, from the things he forced her to do. The only place left to disappear is an island off the coast, home to the most dangerous city in America, where the line between law and crime is drawn in smoke and blood. By day, Robin works quietly as a mail courier, blending into the rhythm of ordinary lives she'll never have. By night, she hides in her tiny apartment above the shop, haunted by memories of the people she's hurt... and the one person she killed. But peace doesn't last long here. Her neighbors-two men who do the dirty work on the police behalf -begin to take notice of her. They see the way she moves, the way she watches, the way danger clings to her like a shadow. And when violence comes to their doorstep, she's pulled back into a world she swore she'd never touch again. In a city built on secrets, she'll have to decide who she's willing to trust-and how far she's willing to go to finally be free.

"You know it's against the law to lie to a police officer, right, Miss Mills?" Silence hung like a thick smoke as Lane's tongue stuck to the roof of her mouth. Officer Casey's tone hadn't changed, but something in his gaze had. "I don't know what you want me to say, I'm sorry." Lane's voice was close to a whisper. They passed a gas station she didn't recognize. The inside was dark, like it had been closed for a long time. Lane's chest tightened. Something felt very wrong. "Where are we going?" She asked finally, voice tighter than she meant it to be. That earned her a sharp and fleeting glance, the corner of his mouth turning up like he was in on a joke she wasn't. "Don't worry. I'll get you where you need to go." ~ All Lane is trying to do is survive in a world that's already failed her. After a childhood spent bouncing between homes, a steady job, a place to lay her head, and a beater to take her from Point A to Point B were the small things she'd fought for. Lane was trying -- she really was. Her life was finally hers, and she intended to keep it that way. But of course, as the saying goes, "Men plan, God laughs." All it took was a glance. Lane froze. And then she ran. It wasn't supposed to be her problem. But the moment those eyes caught hers, she was thrust into a world she'd always tried to avoid. And she'll have to do more than stay quiet to make it out alive. ________________________________________ Completed ✔️ _________________________________________ PREVIOUSLY 'THE PRICE OF SILENCE' Title changed 06/09/2026 Highest Rankings: #1 - Resilience {08/06/2026} #1 - Witness {08/22/2026} #1 - Captivity {08/25/2026} #4 - Faith {09/10/2026} #8 - Hope {09/16/2026}
