Millicent, or Millie as she is called, is a vampire hiding in the living world of the early twenty first century. She blends in with the human world. She has a job in antiques and even has a human roommate, Patrick.

But life, or death in her case, isn't all it's cracked up to be. Her vampire world is messy and humans, including Patrick, can't understand. When Patrick gets sick and her past resurfaces, Millie must take control of the ride to prevent her life from running straight of the rails.

"Millie opens the front door and shields her eyes from the glare of the sun. Every day, it feels as though she has a hangover went she greets it in the morning. It would help, though, if she would remember to put her dark sunglasses on first. Nevertheless, she always forgets. She pulls them out of her pocket and slips them on. She takes a step outside in to the living world. As she steps outside she closes the door behind her. She straightens her black leather jacket before placing her hands in her purple high waisted jeans.

A sweet and familiar iron scent fills Millie's nose. She feels pressure in her gums and a gnawing at her stomach. She looks left across the street. A small child has already fallen off his bike and has scrapped his knee. The little ones always like to taunt me with their easily spilled blood."

An expectant silence filled the room as I forced myself to meet Damien's intense stare. For several agonizing moments, he just looked at me with narrowed eyes, scrutinizing my every move like a scientist studying a specimen. Then, his expression changed slightly. One dark brow lifted a fraction as his mouth curved into the faintest hint of an amused smirk. It was so light that if I'd blinked, I might have missed the flicker of smug satisfaction that ghosted across his perfect face. "Ms. Harrison," he said in the same mesmerizing baritone, effortlessly commanding with every syllable. "After reviewing you in person, I can safely say you don't meet the qualifications." The words hung in the air like a lead weight, deflating all the composure I had. I stared at him, mouth open as the bottom dropped out from underneath me. "I...I don't understand," I stammered, panic rising. "Your company reached out insisting I interview, said I was the top candidate for the Program Specialist role given my recent degree in-" But Damien didn't let me finish, cutting me off with a sharp, dismissive flick of his ringed hand. His earlier vague amusement had vanished entirely, replaced by a mask of cold unconcern. "Oh yes?" He let out a harsh laugh with no humor. "I can assure you, my company has no positions for someone of your...circumstances, Ms. Harrison." ><><>< Meet Charissa: she's 21, a single mom, and trying to juggle classes, a job, and her three-year-old genius son. [BOOK TWO] "Anniversaries to some are like counting the years spent doing something great, years spent together, or years spent alive." I started slowly, voice dropping to a drawl as I peeked cautiously out of my bedroom blinds, scanning the road to see if there was a cloaked figure watching my every movement. "I view anniversaries as counting down the days till death finds me." *** After the events of her wonderfully packed 21st birthday, Addison was ready to retire back into her home and never again see the light of day. It wasn't a totally bad idea. After all, her family's generations-old riches was enough to tide her over until the day her past finally catches on, and until that day finally arrives, she had no intention to step out of her front door. And to think the last time she did, she ended up in the game of cat and mouse with a cynical hooded spirit that wanted her dead and her soul in a glass bottle for his own little sadistic collection. Silence had followed the whole year after the disastrous party. For nearly 365 days, Addison had no trouble with unwanted evil celestial beings lurking around her house in an attempt to take her soul away with a world-stopping kiss. However, the silence was too often, and the world had become too quiet. Reason being? Apparently, Death's new move was to kidnap her best friend Minnie Hoover in an attempt to bait her down to hell itself. Life became much quieter without one-third of her little clique. And so Addison ventured away from the safety of her home, in search of her best friend. After all, silence creeps the heart just as death does, and the world was now deadly silent. ***** Highest Rank Fantasy: #9 Highest Rank Teen Fiction: #77
